Today, the name Rocky Patel is synonymous with exceptional premium cigars, but the Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 was the first cigar to bear his name. As is characteristic of Rocky Patel’s creations, this piece offers a balanced experience, with an even burn and impeccable construction.
The Vintage 1990 consists of a Honduran Maduro wrapper with 12 years of aging, combined with a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican Ligero fillers aged for 8 years. The result is a mild to medium-bodied cigar, with a harmonious profile that unfolds notes of toasted nuts and caramel. As any cigar expert can confirm, when Rocky Patel creates a blend, it is usually oriented toward sophisticated palates, potentially not fully connecting with beginner smokers.
Rocky explains that blending tobaccos from different regions requires greater skill and knowledge, but the result is the perfect symmetry and fusion of all these flavors to create a cigar of excellent taste: «I personally take care of blending each cigar. It’s a meticulous process that takes time. I literally taste hundreds of combinations until I find the winning blend for the palate. Most of my creations take a year to develop.»
The Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 received an epic 92-point rating from Cigar Aficionado in October 2004, and managed to position itself on the Cigars of the Year list in 2004 and 2006!
